Boat Nuts Wanted!

boat-nuts-wanted

Waterline Boats LLC is seeking local brokerage representatives (not necessarily “yacht brokers”) around the South Sound — Olympia, Gig Harbor, Tacoma and Seattle for example.

Waterline Boats is the exclusive Washington licensee (under Boatshed Seattle, Boatshed Tacoma, and Boatshed Everett) for the Boatshed International Yacht Brokerage Group, and the Boatshed System provides a unique and innovative work structure that makes these positions possible. Waterline Boats is also a dealer for Helmsman Trawlers and Krogen Express Yachts.

Retirees and others looking for supplemental income derived from doing what they love — being around boats — may find this job to be a unique opportunity and a dream fit. Enthusiasm for boats and significant boating knowledge (power or sail) are required, as are good written and verbal communications, and basic personal computer skills. We will train and offer generous commissions, a strong support organization, innovative lead-generation processes, and the best internet marketing tools in the business. This is a very flexible situation and hours are self-determined.

Custom Kato 68 Yachtfisher Up For Auction!

2016-Boatbid-Boat-Kato
This Custom Kato 68 Yachtfisher is in BoatBid – an online Boat Auction offered through Waterline Boats / Boatshed Seattle.

The Kato is a custom yachfisher built upon a Bertram design – with twin diesels and a semi-displacement fiberglass hull. Listing agent Gary Buck comments on the Kato 68 Yachtfisher below.

Broker’s Comments:
A great value by any measure or comparison, Sea-Going Capability per dollar, Tonnage per dollar, Living Space per dollar, Power per dollar, Feet in Length per dollar, Systems per dollar, the list can go on. Manufactured by the Kato Boatworks Yard in Japan this vessel was constructed from plans that were derived from the popular Bertram 58 design.

It is a FRP hull with the decks and portions of the house made from aluminum. She’s been used as a comfortable live-aboard and has a huge amount of space (over 800 square feet!).

This vessel has traveled to Mexico and is a multiple time Alaskan veteran. With the deep “V” hull and stabilizers it makes her a suitable ocean traveling vessel. Her Command Bridge feels like a ship with great visibility and lots of seating. This vessel also boasts a hard cover enclosed bridge deck. It is well equipped for extended cruises and features systems for pot pulling and fishing (with deck mounted freezers).

The aft deck and cockpit are large areas for fishing or entertaining. Built very robustly this vessel compares favorably to either a Bertram or Hatteras Convertible, a Californian CPMY or even an Egg Harbor Yachtfisher.

But there’s so much more information to share about the Kato! Therfore, you’ll want to view the complete specifications, 118 photos and a video tour of the Kato! Just click the link.> Custom Kato 68 Yachtfisher

Bidding begins August 12! So you’ll want to learn how the auction works and view the entire Summer Auction Catalog. All you have to do is go to BoatBid.com to get started.

Waterline Boats ~broker spotlight | Dave Carleson

WLB-Broker-Spotlight-DC

Born in Salem, Oregon, Dave Carleson has loved boats his whole life. Boating was a family thing, making family trips to the coast and renting rowboats on the Siletz River from a very young age. When Dave was older, he purchased a Gary 18 Sailboat, but his first boat was one he and his father built together when he was 4 years old.

DC

“We were on a farm near the Willamette River and as a child we would go to the river for picnics and drag boats on strings, pond boats we had built. So interest in the water just came with being born into this family.”

In the 70s Dave moved to Portland and began his 26-year -long teaching career. At the same time, he developed a fiberglass canoe company that, over time, built more than a thousand canoes. Later, his company built a sailboat, a Bahama 25, which sold commercially in the Bay area California and Seattle.

“I dreamed in those days of being able to not teach school anymore and have a water related business in Seattle.”

In the 80s Dave took a year off from both teaching and the canoe business. He lived aboard a Jason 35 sailboat. Once the year was up he found he didn’t want to go back and in 1989 he co-founded and owned Mahina Yachts on Bainbridge Island. For 25 years he connected buyers and sellers and loved what he did. He and few others were the first small group of Washington brokers to qualify as Certified Professional Yacht Brokers (CPYB).

In 2015 Dave was working on a co-broker deal with Scott and Lisa Helker of Waterline Boats. Dave appreciated their friendliness and professional ethics when it came to the people they worked with and for. Scott and Lisa were also impressed by Dave and offered him a job. Dave started working at Waterline Boats in May 2015.

Today, Dave lives on Bainbridge Island and owns a 38’ Sportfisher. He has cruised around a lot of Puget Sound and loves getting away and exploring.

“You get out to Neah Bay where the ocean meets the straights I would have to say that’s a big favorite of mine. Where big geographical areas converge. All of it is richer. The birds, the seaweed, the climate changes. It’s more wild.”

With so many years as a boater and a broker under his belt, Dave knows that with true boaters it’s about adventure. What boating have you done in the past? What boating adventures would you like to do? If you have an adventure in mind, Dave wants to help you make it happen.

CLIPPER ROUND THE WORLD RACE DEPARTS SEATTLE THURSDAY 28 APRIL

Clipper-Round-the-World

The 10th edition of the Clipper Round the World Race, with twelve 70’ one-design monohull sailboats competing, is departing for leg 7 from Seattle to New York on Thursday 28 April. Waterline Boats encourages all Seattle-area boaters to be afloat to cheer the fleet on Elliott Bay during the Parade of Sail from 1500 to 1700.

Here’s a link to information about the race, the boats and crews, and their visit to Seattle: https://clipperroundtheworld.com/race/port/west-coast-usa-2015-16

The boats called on Seattle for about a week after a non-stop Pacific crossing from Qingdao, China. The winning boat completed the crossing in 25 days. The next leg, to New York City via the Panama Canal will have the crews at sea for over 50 days.

Scott Helker of Waterline Boats / Boatshed Seattle enjoyed a visit and a brief sail aboard the boat PSP LOGISTICS and came away thoroughly impressed by the determination, sense of adventure and hardiness of the crew. This race is truly a skills and endurance test and is everything but a yachty round-the-world cruise. Accommodations are spartan, the work is hard, and the conditions can be exceptionally challenging. Skipper Max Stunell leads a cheerful and dedicated team who are to be thanked — their kindness and patience in hosting Scott and many other Seattle gawkers and dreamers after barely a moment’s rest following a difficult crossing of the Pacific was greatly appreciated.

Crew members join the race for single or for multiple legs as their time and money allow, and undergo intensive training prior to boarding their boats. Featured in these photos is Sue Ball, from the UK, crewing aboard PSP LOGISTICS for the entire circumnavigation.

GOOD LUCK and SAFE VOYAGE to the boats and their crews as they continue racing toward completion of their circumnavigation with a return to London in July.
