DeFever 49 Raised Pilothouse: A Classic Stands Ready for Cruising in Comfort

When the winds rise and waters turns rough, you need to know your boat can get you through safely. Though cruising would ideally always be in calm waters, this of course isn’t the case, and certainly not during any long-range boat trip. Comfort, though, is also crucial for an enjoyable and worthwhile boat trip. To find a boat that has both exceptional safe handling and comfort, look no farther than the DeFever 49 Raised Pilothouse currently listed with Waterline Boats.

We recently had the chance to talk with the owner and learned more about what makes this boat such a stand-out opportunity. With a record of meticulous maintenance and notable upgrades, this boat stands ready for cruising and entertaining. Reliable and Enjoyable Design

When asked why they originally purchased this boat, the owner replied, “Stability, seaworthiness, long range cruising, and a great layout for a liveaboard.” Certainly, she can attest to these factors, having taken the boat all the way from Alaska back to the Puget Sound, then multiple trips throughout the Gulf and San Juan Islands, South Puget Sound, and back as far north as Desolation Sound.

With all that cruising, what the owner says she’s enjoyed most about the vessel is the ease of handling, year-round comfort, and ability to transit safely in most any weather conditions. And it hasn’t always been smooth sailing either, “30-40 mph gusts and wind waves 3-4 feet aren’t the most comfortable to be in,” the owner says, “but we have done it safely.”

Equipment original to the boat also greatly influenced the owner’s decision to buy this boat in particular, including:

• Vessel is stabilized
• 4.4 cubic foot freezer in the engine compartment
• Hydronic Heat

All of the above make it both very comfortable to run and live aboard. The stabilizers on the boat, “create an incredibly smooth ride,” the owner says, and, “a bow thruster allows easy maneuverability while docking.” Additionally, the overall design of the boat makes it undemanding and safe to board and move about.

Notable Additions to this DeFever Trawler

The conscientious attention to detail from the current owner of this DeFever trawler is clear. One way this shows itself is through special additions they made, resulting in a notable and unique DeFever model. These additions include:

• Flybridge and cockpit fully enclosed with EZ2CY eisenglass system
• A water maker

The Waterline Boats Listing
The owner has had a long relationship with Waterline Boats, and explains why she chose them to list with, “we…met Scott and Lisa [of Waterline Boats] around 2009, and they helped us sell two previous boats. It was during our search process for this boat that we became good friends with Scott and Lisa. They guided us through our discernment and purchase process and continued to be a great resource for us when we had questions or needed referrals for projects. We began to think about joining their team and I decided to take the step late October 2014. They have a great system for marketing boats!”

“Cult Classic – beautiful, beloved and bulletproof,” is how renowned yachting journalist Chris Caswell described this boat model, and from what we learned from the owner this statement is absolutely true. For those in the market for a long-range cruising trawler, this is not one to be missed!
