This is a unique opportunity to learn intimate details and stories about the boats in our inventory directly from the owners themselves.
In the present feature, we speak with the owner of a 1993 Camano 31 Trawler Troll, currently listed on our Boatshed Everett website (link below). This particular Camano has been well cared for and boasts a substantial amount of impressive custom upgrades.
What initially motivated you to buy this lovely Trawler?
Having been a professional boatbuilder for 47 years, I wanted a well-built boat that was easy to maintain. The lay-up schedule for a Camano 31 exceeds what most stock 40 foot boats offer. Access to electrical and system components by easy removal of cabinets or panels is not typical of most stock boats. We also wanted an all-weather boat with excellent 360-degree visibility.
What did you most enjoy during your ownership of the Camano?
It’s difficult to pin down merely one single thing we most enjoyed. Remarkable performance in rough water. Ease of handling single handed or with a crew of two. Sitting on the flybridge watching the sun set. The ability to scoot quickly and safely out of danger or approaching bad weather. Impressing people with your boat handling when the credibility actually goes to the boat’s capabilities more than the skipper’s.
What notable destinations has it traveled to?
All the usual Northwest destinations: Desolation Sound, Octopus Islands, The Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands. We did a seven week-long cruise to Prince Rupert, gunkholing coming and going.
What has impressed you most about its performance?
The first time I had to turn beam to open Pacific swells, the boat just rode perfectly upright with no chine walking or crazy heeling. We normally cruised at about eight knots but didn’t hesitate to motor up to run Deception Pass or Dent Rapids.
What additions to this trawler are unique or notable compared to others of the same model on the market?
It has quite a few unique features. The radar mast with a boom for picking the outboard for the tender. A fold down teak helm chair. Fold down settee extension. Drop leaf teak table. Tip out teak chart cabinet. And then there’s the one level teak and Ash cabin sole in the galley and v-berth providing storage underneath.
Why did you entrust the listing of your Camano with Waterline Boats?
Waterline is the Camano specialist. We first met owners Scott and Lisa at a Camano rendezvous and appreciated their straightforward and honest approach to selling boats.
