A Boat Owner’s Insights – Bayliner 5788 Review

In this edition of “A Boat Owner’s Insights,” we hear from the owner of a 1999 5788 Bayliner Pilothouse Motoryacht, currently listed on our Boatshed Everett website (link below). This is a well-appointed vessel that boasts ample amenities and custom upgrades.

What originally motivated you to buy this lovely motoryacht?

While having coffee on a Sunday morning, we happened to see it on one of the boat sites we had been monitoring, and really liked what we saw. The boat was already under offer, but we decided to take a chance and arranged for a viewing anyway. When we stepped aboard, it was immediately apparent that the boat had everything we were looking for, particularly with regard to its roomy layout. We optimistically made a back-up offer, which paid off when the first would-be buyer ended up not being able to go through with the purchase.

What have you most enjoyed about the boat?

We truly enjoyed being able to share the beauty and spaciousness of the yacht with our family and friends, all of whom it generously accommodated. It is an incredibly comfortable space for entertaining or simply relaxing.

What notable destinations has it traveled to?

Most of our boating adventures entailed visiting Puget Sound’s many islands; we particularly enjoyed the beauty and accessibility of Roche Harbor.

What impressed you most about its performance?

We were very impressed with the speed the boat is capable of achieving. The son of our dear family friends lives on the bluff in Edmonds. Every time he saw us coming, he would radio us to say we looked like a 60’ ski boat in motion on the water. We used a bit of fuel going 25 knots as would be expected, but the boat cruised exceedingly well at 15 knots with excellent fuel consumption.

What additions to your boat are unique or notable compared to other models on the market?

The boat has lots of new wiring, as well all new Garmin Navigation. The inverter seamlessly switches from shore power to battery. When out on the water, it will also monitor the battery level and start the generator automatically as needed. All lights have been converted to LED, which noticeably saves on power bills and battery life. We added 85 can (recessed) lights at one point — at $14+ per bulb, that was an expensive day! But they really contribute to the ambiance onboard. We also installed an Olssen Mfg transom lift davit system for the tender, which is a 2017 Boston Whaler 1388 Super Sport with a 40hp Mercury outboard engine. We added a custom indoor/outdoor snap-down carpet on the flybridge. The interior has new carpet as well as attractive Acacia hardwood flooring throughout the salon and galley, and much of the deck area is covered with custom Sea-Dek decking. We replaced the stern thruster, and also put in a new stacking Splendide Ariston washer/dryer combo.

Why are you listing it with Waterline Boats?

We purchased our most recent boat with the help of Waterline Boats broker Gretchen Miles, who worked very hard to find us exactly what we wanted. We trust in her ability to find the right owner for this wonderful boat.
